1 How did you first get involved with yoga practice (as a student) ?
Doing yoga at home and then received a gift certificate for a month of classes. Got hooked!
2 As a yoga instructor, what is the one idea or concept that you wish to emphasize to a person who is coming to your class for their very first yoga practice?
The main point is to challenge the body and enjoy the class, not to force, and possibly, injure one self.
3 How long have you been teaching yoga?
I really don’t remember. Maybe 2005? My tax records go back to 2007, and I have the tax form from Ranjana.
4 Favorite color?
Don’t have a single favorite. I like read and certain shades of blue and green.
5 What do you enjoy the most about teaching yoga ?
Helping people overcome physical issues and leaving the class feeling better than when they arrived.
6 What obstacles have yoga helped you to overcome?
I started yoga when I was 30 (did not have health issues). I think yoga prevented health issues as I got older. The breathing and mediation help with stress.
7 One night you wake up because you heard a noise. You turn on the light to find that you are surrounded by MUMMIES. The mummies aren't really doing anything, they're just standing around your bed. What do you do?
Get out of there. Call 911 and tell the dispatcher there are intruders in my house.
8 What do you think it is about Ranjana’s yoga studio that distinguishes it from other yoga studios?
The camaraderie between everyone – students and teachers. We all know each other’s names and genuinely care about each other. The classes are flexible and tailored to the students in each particular class. Most studios are impersonal and have such structured classes that they would get boring.
9 Would you rather be able to stop time or be able to fly?
Both! If I have to choose… ability to stop time.
10 You have the opportunity to travel for a week and all expenses are paid for that seven day period. But you have to leave now. Where would you go?
11 Do you feel that the current explosion of interest in yoga around the world has peaked (ie. has become a fad) or do you feel that yoga will remain in the contemporary lexicon of the world’s consciousness for years to come?
Yoga is here to stay!
12 Why do you feel that yoga is so meaningful for the thousands of people who practice it in this modern age that we find ourselves in?
Yoga offers so much… a means to strengthen, heal, calm the body and mind. Also a way to improve flexibility, balance, and overall health.
13 And finally, what do you think about garden gnomes?
Not a fan
